Laurencia, a stirring ballet in two acts, is inspired by Lope de Vega's 'Fuente Ovejuna' and set to the evocative music of Alexander Krein. Performed at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre, the production features choreography by Vakhtang Chabukiani with a new version and staging by Nina Ananiashvili. Direction is provided by Zaza Kalmakhelidze, with Liliana Mitaishvili and Irine Jandieri as choreographer’s consultants. Set design is by David Monavardisashvili, costumes by Alexandre Vassiliev, and lighting by John B Read; Ekaterine Shavliashvili is assistant choreographer. The production’s artistic director is Nina Ananiashvili. The premiere took place on June 21, 2017. Music is performed by the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre Orchestra, conducted by Levan Jagaev. Performances are scheduled for March 14, 15, 17, 18, and 19. Entry for latecomers is only allowed at the first intermission. Formal dress code enforced—shorts not permitted. Children under 6 allowed only for daytime shows.
