Quanzhou Puppet Heritage Show
Discover the rich tradition of Quanzhou puppetry with seven captivating short performances: Lion Dance, Ruo Lan’s Journey, The Little Monk Descends the Mountain, Drunken Zhong Kui, Dreams of Youth, Taming the Monkey, and Puppet Tea Ceremony. Performed in Chinese or Minnan dialect, this show is directed by Lin Fengjin and features Shen Suge, Zhang Gung, Zhuang Wentie, and Lin Xiaojun. Quanzhou puppetry dates back over 2,200 years to the Qin and Han dynasties, preserving more than 700 traditional plays and a unique "Puppet Melody" style with over 300 musical pieces. Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006 and honored by UNESCO in 2012, it represents the longest continuous puppetry tradition in China and a cultural treasure. The performance is held at the Youth Theatre and welcomes audiences of all ages.
