Alfred and Violetta

Sat, Jun 20 · 19:00 Gabriadze Theatre

The Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre's journey began in 1981 with "Alfred and Violetta," a fresh artistic take on the timeless love story known from Alexandre Dumas fils' novel "La Dame aux Camélias" and Verdi's opera "La Traviata." After a long pause, the play returns to the Gabriadze Theatre stage in a new form. In the year before his passing, Rezo Gabriadze almost entirely rewrote and refreshed the play. The final version was completed by the theatre's artistic director, Leo Gabriadze, who also directs this updated performance. The story unfolds across locations including Tbilisi's Mtatsminda District, Milan, Khashuri, Rome, Abastumani, Venice, and Dighomi. Set against the dramatic backdrop of 1990s Tbilisi, Alfred and Violetta's love faces many challenges. The performance lasts 75 minutes. Guests are welcome to relax before the show at the "Ar Idardo" bar in the theatre lobby, opening at 18:00 exclusively for ticket holders. Children under 12 are not admitted. Latecomers will not be admitted after the performance begins to maintain the intimate and magical atmosphere of the theatre.
