Helios On Air

Sun, May 17 · 20:00 Sokhumi State Drama Theatre

Theatre Contact presents the inclusive performance "Helios On Air" on May 17, 2026, at 8 PM at Sokhumi State Drama Theatre (68 Uznadze St.). Written and directed by Ira Kokhreidze, with scenography and production by Giorgi Mikaberidze, music by My Equinox Divine, and video graphics by Archil Bediashvili. Genre: Symbolism / Theatre of the Absurd. Helios here serves as a metaphor for personal discovery and self-awareness, rather than a direct reference to Greek mythology. Set in a mirrored room, the story follows a society attached to screens, passively receiving warnings about the potential appearance of "Helios" through TV and radio. The population’s responses range from confusion and unease to hope for salvation from a messianic figure. The play illuminates the turmoil of a digital society: stagnation, inner turmoil, conflict, superficiality, and the struggle between sincerity and duplicity. Amongst societal apathy, a few individuals begin to see through the illusions and attempt to reevaluate their values and perceptions. Cast: Nano Gordadze, Vaso Kiparoidze, Mashiko Tvalabeishvili, Gvantsa Javakhishvili, Giorgi Gvasalia, Mancho Kokhreidze, Giorgi Mikaberidze, Luka Ushveridze, Tato Sikharulidze, Mariam Iordanishvili, Nini Bikovi, Sandro Darsavelidze, Tako Ujmajuridze, Maiko Minjia, Anano Chitadze, Dachi Zerakidze. The play is performed in one act, lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes, and is suitable for ages 12 and up. Theatre Contact is Georgia’s pioneering inclusive arts initiative, internationally recognized and a full member of the International Theatre Institute (ITI Georgian Centre) under UNESCO. Chief director Ira Kokhreidze has been honored with the Order of Merit for her contributions to inclusive theatre.
