Screening and Discussion of the Film "Dead Man's Wire" (Gus Van Sant, 2025)
We are watching the new crime thriller by Gus Van Sant, a recognized classic of American independent cinema, Palme d'Or winner, and creator of cult films "Good Will Hunting" and "My Own Idaho."
In his works, the director always explores themes of rebellion, social isolation, and complex human psychology, and this new film is no exception.
The plot is based on a true story from 1977. Desperate Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård) takes hostage the son of his mortgage broker, attaching a charged dead man's switch to him. Convinced that the company deceived him, Tony barricades himself in a booby-trapped apartment and demands a confrontation with the police and FBI, turning it into a real media sensation, demanding justice live on air. Skarsgård is joined on screen by an excellent cast: Al Pacino, Colman Domingo, and Dacre Montgomery.
After the screening, we will discuss how Van Sant dissects themes of anti-capitalism and human vulnerability, analyze Skarsgård's powerful performance, the film's dark humor, and the director's visual language features.
Host: Vadim Krivobok, film club member, promoter of world culture and history (@cinemastepbystep).
