Travel to Mazyr’s Castle Hill
Mazyr rises across ravines and the high bank of the Pripyat, making its centre very different from a typical flat city walk. Castle Hill holds the Mazyr Castle historical centre—a modern reconstruction on the medieval castle site, not a surviving fortress. Small displays on weapons, hunting and city history occupy the wooden towers.
The real appeal is the combination of museum and terrain: stairs, slopes and views towards the centre and river. After the castle, descend towards the main square and continue to the Cathedral of Archangel Michael. Wear shoes with good grip; climbs can be slippery in winter and after rain.
Getting there from Homyel: a direct bus or minibus from the main bus station usually takes 2–2.5 hours. From Mazyr bus station, take a local bus or taxi towards Castle Hill, then walk the final few minutes. Another option is a train to Kalinkavichy followed by a local bus, but that requires a carefully timed connection. Driving is about 135 km and roughly two hours. Check the return service and current museum hours in advance.
