Take a day trip from Homyel to the Rechytsa embankment
Rechytsa is only about an hour from Homyel, yet the broad Dnieper and high riverbank give it a different character. Begin at the ancient settlement in Children’s Park, then walk to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Dormition Cathedral. The route moves naturally from the medieval castle site to nineteenth- and twentieth-century architecture.
Finish on the embankment at the Chapel of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk. Its asymmetric metal structure rises more than 24 metres and has become the city’s main visual marker, with long views down the Dnieper beside it. Allow two to three hours for the central walk; in summer, stay for softer evening light.
Getting there from Homyel: suburban and regional trains to Rechytsa take about 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes; buses and minibuses from the main bus station take roughly an hour. Walk 20–30 minutes from either station to the start, or use local transport for the short connection. Driving is about 45 km and 45–55 minutes. Check a convenient return service before travelling.
