Take a day trip from Homyel to Vietka via Khalch

Ветковский музей и усадьба Халецких

Vietka grew around an Old Believer community and preserves a culture that is difficult to encounter elsewhere. The main reason to travel is the Museum of Old Belief and Belarusian Traditions in the former Groshykau merchant house. Its collections include icons, manuscripts and early printed books, carved icon covers, textiles and everyday objects from the Sozh region. Allow at least ninety minutes, then walk around Krasnaya Square and the older streets.

On the way, make a short stop in Khalch to view the Chalecki manor from outside. This rare late-eighteenth- to early-nineteenth-century country house stands above the Sozh, but the building is unsafe and closed inside. Stay outside barriers and away from structural supports; Khalch works as an extra stop, not the sole purpose of the journey.

Getting there from Homyel: minibus 101-T and bus 226 leave the main bus station towards Vietka. Khalch takes roughly 35–45 minutes and Vietka about 45–55 minutes. The museum is a 20–25 minute walk from Vietka bus station. By car, stop in Khalch first and continue about 5 km to Vietka; the direct drive from Homyel usually takes 30–40 minutes. Check current outward and return services before setting off.
