Visit the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul
The Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul was built from 1991 to 2004 and consecrated on 16 October 2004. It is a modern church rather than a surviving 19th-century monument: a tall brick volume, large central dome and rows of arched recesses create a strong landmark above the surrounding streets.
Approach from the square to appreciate the cathedral's raised setting and rhythm of brick arches, then enter when the doors are open. This is an active cathedral, so avoid disrupting services and do not photograph worshippers without permission. Check the diocesan timetable before visiting.
