Walk the Sozh embankment to the Kyiv Descent

The Sozh embankment reveals Homyel at its calmest. Start below the palace park and follow the water towards the Kyiv Descent as the views shift between the high bank, the bridge, the park and the broad river.

Come about an hour before sunset for softer light on the slope and palace, and expect cooler air beside the water. At the Kyiv Descent, look for the sculpture of Homyel’s first settler beside a lynx, the city’s symbol. The walk takes roughly an hour at an unhurried pace; steps and the lower promenade can be slippery after rain.
