Visit the Church of St Mary of Egypt
The Church of St Mary of Egypt was built in 1865 to a design by engineer Alexey Polozov. Its composition is easy to recognise by the clock on the bell tower, the round window above the entrance and the compact five-domed crown over the main volume. The white-and-blue church stands close to the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, so both buildings fit naturally into one walk.
Walk around the exterior first and compare the main and side facades, then enter if the doors are open. This is an active Orthodox church: keep quiet, avoid disrupting services and do not photograph worshippers without permission. Check the current service timetable with the parish.
