Remember the prisoners of the Pružany Ghetto
The Pružany Ghetto existed from autumn 1941 until early 1943. Jewish people from Pružany and surrounding towns were confined there; thousands died from hunger and disease, were shot or were deported to the Auschwitz death camp. The memorial in the Jewish cemetery includes plaques preserving the names of families that researchers were able to recover.
This is a place of quiet remembrance rather than an ordinary sightseeing stop. Read the inscriptions without haste, do not stand on memorial stones and avoid staged photography. Study the history of the ghetto and Pružany's Jewish community beforehand if you want to understand the wider context.
