Cinema Club at Auditory: Screening and Discussion of "The Lunchbox" (Ritesh Batra, 2013)
This Friday evening, we watch one of the most delicate and touching films of contemporary Indian cinema — "The Lunchbox" by Ritesh Batra.
The film captivated audiences at the Cannes Film Festival, won awards in the Critics' Week section, and was nominated for a BAFTA as the best non-English language film.
Due to an error in Mumbai's famous lunchbox delivery system, Ila's homemade lunch does not reach her husband but instead goes to a lonely accountant, Saajan, who is preparing to retire. The exchange of accidental notes gradually turns into a trusting correspondence that changes both their lives.
After the screening, we will discuss how the film reflects everyday life as a global human story, explore themes of loneliness, unfulfilled hopes, and second chances, and why "The Lunchbox" became one of the most renowned Indian films in recent years.
