Hiking to Levitana Lake and Mount Jamjamta

A very scenic one-day route at the border of Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions (near Borjomi municipality and Gori).

We will ascend to the top of a mountain ridge offering a 360-degree panoramic view.

The hike starts from Levitana Lake, surrounded by dense mixed forests dominated by conifers (spruce, fir) and deciduous trees (beech, oak, hornbeam).

Then we climb the ridge from which there is a panoramic view of Mount Jamjama (2380 m). The path goes through alpine meadows and wild mountain trails without developed tourist infrastructure.

The summit of Jamjama is a rocky peak shaped like a crown. From the ridge, there is an incredible view of the Tani and Jami gorges, lush with greenery, and on clear days, the Greater Caucasus mountain range is visible.

Stable weather in this picturesque area (there is a stop at a supermarket when leaving the city), where we enjoy a snack and tea.

On the way back, we will visit Ateni Sioni — a church built at the very beginning of the 7th century. Inside, frescoes from the Golden Age have been preserved. Besides the frescoes, a large number of inscriptions remain both inside and outside. In terms of the number and historical importance of inscriptions, Ateni Sioni is one of the leading churches in Georgia.
