Alfred and Violetta - Gabriadze Theatre Performance

Thu, Jul 23 · 19:00 Gabriadze Theater

The history of the Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre began in 1981 with the play "Alfred and Violetta," a fresh artistic take on the eternal love story known from Alexandre Dumas fils' novel "La Dame aux Camélias" and Verdi's opera "La Traviata." After a long hiatus, the play returns to the Gabriadze Theatre stage in a new form. In the year before his death, Rezo Gabriadze rewrote and renewed the play, with final direction by Leo Gabriadze. The story unfolds in Tbilisi's Mtatsminda District and cities including Milan, Khashuri, Rome, Abastumani, Venice, and Dighomi, set during the dramatic events of 1990s Tbilisi. Alfred and Violetta's love faces many obstacles. The performance lasts 75 minutes. Children under 12 are not admitted. Latecomers will not be admitted after the show starts to preserve the intimate atmosphere. Ticket holders can enjoy the "Ar Idardo" bar in the theatre lobby from 18:00 before the show.
