Alfred and Violetta at Gabriadze Theatre

Wed, Jul 15 · 19:00 Gabriadze Theater

The Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre's history began in 1981 with the play "Alfred and Violetta," a fresh artistic take on the eternal love story known from Alexandre Dumas fils' novel "La Dame aux Camélias" and Verdi's opera "La Traviata." After a long break, the play returns to the Gabriadze Theatre stage in a new form. Before his death, Rezo Gabriadze almost completely rewrote and renewed the play, finalized by artistic director Leo Gabriadze, who also directs this new performance. The story unfolds in various locations including Tbilisi's Mtatsminda District, Milan, Khashuri, Rome, Abastumani, Venice, and Dighomi, set during the dramatic events of 1990s Tbilisi. Alfred and Violetta's love faces many obstacles in this poignant retelling. The performance lasts 75 minutes. Ticket holders can enjoy the "Ar Idardo" bar in the theatre lobby from 18:00 before the show. Children under 12 are not admitted. Latecomers will not be admitted after the show begins to maintain the intimate atmosphere.
