SURFACE: Ceramic Workshop

Sat, Jun 20 · 15:00 Grato Passage

Join a hands-on ceramics workshop on June 20–21 at Grato Passage. Across two days, participants will experiment with unique surface textures and hand-building methods to craft vessels with ancient, unrefined character—think rough cracks and layered finishes. Materials such as sand, stone, bark, and liquid clay are combined, with heat guns used to enhance surfaces. Day 1 focuses on forming cups and bowls using carving and shaping techniques. Day 2, after pieces reach leather-hard, involves decorating with slips and glazes, refining texture, and adding final touches. Each session lasts about 3 hours. The workshop is taught by Eufrat, a Czech ceramicist based in Georgia whose work bridges functional pottery and sculptural art, inspired by wabisabi aesthetics and Japanese kurinuki. Her ceramics evoke relics shaped by time, fire, and nature. Eufrat’s studio in Kutaisi is known for contemporary ceramic courses. Price: 250 GEL for both days. Open to ages 16 and up.
