Mariamoba 1924 (Premiere)
‘Mariamoba 1924’ is a dramatic production inspired by real events of the 1924 Soviet repressions. The play follows the harrowing fate of two families devastated by the so-called Red Army Purge. Through authentic eyewitness diary entries—such as accounts describing how men were gathered from noble households and executed—the story captures the painful transition into a new era. First staged at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film State University in April 2022, this powerful new rendition makes its premiere at the Sokhumi State Drama Theatre on June 8 and 9, 2026. Script and direction by Alexander Kantaria, with Giorgi Sultanishvili as musical director. Set and costume design by Ana Berishvili and Nisa Samadbegishvili, choreography by Kote Purtseladze, production managed by Leila Murghulia. Starring Ana Leveneci, Nino Lomidze, Nino Abesalashvili, Giga Kakubava, Elene Darchia, Davit Gurgenadze, Zuka Papuashvili/Buka Tolordava, Megi Peradze, Kakhi Gazdeliani, Lasha Tsiklauri, and Saba Charkviani.
