Marshal de Fantié’s Diamond
Set in 19th-century Tbilisi, this play whisks audiences into a vivid celebration, abruptly interrupted when news arrives from France that changes everything. General Vano Phantiashvili, head of the festive table, learns of his inheritance—a massive diamond—from his late uncle Marshal de Pantie. This revelation triggers a spirited adventure to Paris, with General Phantiashvili joined by a colorful cast: Khecho, Zippo, Porpile, and the famous matchmaker Khanuma. Together, they navigate mishaps and intrigue on their quest. What could drive a seasoned soldier and Napoleonic Wars veteran to turn away from the world’s greatest gem?
