Alfred and Violetta - Gabriadze Theatre Performance

Wed, Jun 17 · 19:00 Gabriadze Theatre

The history of the Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre began in 1981 with the play "Alfred and Violetta," a new artistic interpretation of the eternal love story known from Alexandre Dumas fils' novel "La Dame aux Camélias" and Verdi's opera "La Traviata." After a long break, the play returns to the Gabriadze Theatre stage in a renewed form. In the year before his death, Rezo Gabriadze almost completely rewrote the play, with the final version directed by the theatre's artistic director Leo Gabriadze. The story unfolds across locations including Tbilisi's Mtatsminda District, Milan, Khashuri, Rome, Abastumani, Venice, and Dighomi, set during the turbulent 1990s in Tbilisi. Alfred and Violetta's love faces many obstacles amid these dramatic events. The performance lasts 75 minutes. Audience members are invited to relax before the show at the "Ar Idardo" bar in the theatre lobby, open from 18:00 exclusively for ticket holders. Children under 12 are not admitted. Latecomers will not be admitted after the show begins to maintain the intimate and magical atmosphere of the theatre.
