Experience Sergei Prokofiev’s stirring ballet ‘Romeo and Juliet’, based on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre from May 5 to 10. Performances are at 7:00 PM on May 5, 6, 9 and 3:00 PM on May 10. The production is staged and choreographed by Mikhail Lavrovsky, with musical direction by Alevtina Ioffe and onstage orchestra conducted by Levan Jagaev. The Tbilisi premiere was in 2006, with a newly revised version unveiled in 2018. Set and costume design are by David Monavardisashvili and Vyacheslav Okunev, while John B. Read handles lighting. Artistic direction is provided by Nina Ananiashvili. Principal coach: Alexey Fadeechev; assistant: Ekaterine Shavliashvili. Tickets range from 20 to 120 GEL. Latecomers admitted only at the first interval; shorts are not allowed. Children under 6 are welcome only at day performances. For a memorable cultural evening, don’t miss this timeless ballet.
