Xilva: Irony and Tragedy

Sun, Apr 19 · 20:00 Theatre On Atoneli

Xilva is a bold reinterpretation of ancient tragedy by playwright Lasha Bughadze, brought to life by director Salome Joglidze. With set design by Ketevan Nadibaidze and music by Ana Zakareishvili, it features actors Davit Beshitaishvili, Baia Dvalishvili, Salome Maisashvili, Baia Kereselidze, and Luka Japaridze. Drawing on the themes of Euripides’ Iphigenia at Aulis, the play examines the turmoil of contemporary society—war, instability, and collective fear. Through sharp humor and self-irony, Xilva dismantles the pathos of classical tragedy, inviting the audience to reflect on how people can accept the unthinkable when driven by fear and the urge to survive. Performances are at Theatre On Atoneli on April 18 and 19. Supported by the Civil Society Foundation and the City Hall’s Department of Culture. Duration: 90 minutes.
