Hiking in the Truso Valley
We are starting the hiking season in this area. Most of the snow has melted, and spring is in the valley! We will hike to the Carbonated Lake with its lively springs, a simple but very atmospheric route (photo from June 15, 2025).
Program:
• We will visit all the key sites along the Military-Georgian Road
• In the valley, we will see small waterfalls formed from volcanic rocks
• Natural attractions include various mineral springs rich in iron, creating orange-red deposits resembling rust. Calcium-rich springs form white travertine lace on the slopes, several meters wide
• The highlight is the Carbonated Lake! The water is very cold and rich in iron. The water here is drinkable and tastes great!
• If we have the energy, we will reach Zakagori (a village-fortress). Picturesque and extensive ruins of a citadel on a hill above the upper Terek River (14th century)
• Picnic in a scenic spot (stop at a supermarket on the way out of town)
