Cinema Club at Auditory: Screening and Discussion of the Film "Persepolis"
On June 4, Marjane Satrapi passed away — a French writer, artist, and director of Iranian origin, author of the graphic novels "Persepolis," "Chicken with Plums," and "Embroideries." Her works became an important testimony of an era, telling stories about memory, freedom, and growing up.
In the film about Marjane Satrapi, we invite you to watch "Persepolis" — an animated film based on the autobiographical graphic novel of the same name, which she co-directed with Vincent Paronnaud.
"Persepolis" is an animated film about Marjane Satrapi's coming of age in Iran, the establishment of the Islamic Republic, and the war with Iraq. Facing political repression, loss of loved ones, and restrictions on freedom, Marjane leaves her homeland and goes to Europe, where she tries to find herself and maintain a connection to her roots.
After the screening, we will discuss the film together: talking about the historical context, the language of animation, the author's position in the film, and why "Persepolis" became one of the main animated films of the 21st century.
